Rita Bagg
It is with sadness that we have learned of the death of Rita Bagg. In her 90s, Rita had been attending u3a meetings until very recently. She was one of our earliest members and was our chair from 1994 to 1997. Solent u3a began in 1987 as Solent u3a Social Club and in 1989 Rita became a member of the committee. Her first role was organising the programme. She had to leave the committee after three years as was the rule at the time, but she was soon back. In 1993 she received the highest number of votes out of six nominations to the committee and became the vice-chair. There followed three successful years as chairperson during which trips to Belgium, Jersey and Denmark took place. Rita also oversaw the tenth anniversary of the Solent u3a and she and her husband Jeffrey were members of the former Local History Group run by the late Ian Eyres. Rita started the Monday Walking Group and has given talks to our u3a. She continued in her support of our u3a for many more years, along with her husband Jeffrey, and was a great example of how keeping active and involved and learning new things is good for us.
